Illinois VINE and Brown Custody
Illinois VINE is the statewide victim-information and notification program. The Illinois Attorney General points people to VINELink and the number 1-866-566-8439. It blends custody and court interfaces. Each participating agency supplies its own data. Brown County has no jail of its own. Schuyler County Jail is a documented receiving facility for some Brown arrests. Brown-specific participation is not confirmed. Write down the facility shown in a match and verify it with that jail by phone.
What VINE offers is custody reporting plus alerts. It is not a Brown arrest report, a booking sheet, or a court disposition. Each of those sources answers a different question, and each updates on its own schedule.
Check Brown Arrests on VINELink
Begin with details that can separate people who share a name. Illinois VINELink accepts first and last name searches. Partial-name and sound-alike options widen the net. When an identification number is known, add it to narrow the results.
- Open Illinois VINELink and select the person search.
- Enter the full name before trying broader matching.
- Compare age, birth date, ID, facility, and status when shown.
- Open the likely record and note its reporting source.
- Call the named jail or agency to confirm urgent facts.
Never assume the first result is the Brown County arrest you want. The holding facility may sit outside Brown entirely. A record can also describe a later IDOC sentence rather than a fresh county booking, so read it with care before drawing any conclusion about the arrest.
Brown VINELink Result Fields
Fields depend on the reporting agency. No field is guaranteed for every Brown-related record.
| Possible field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name | Compare another detail before choosing a same-name match. |
| Custody status | The agency-reported state at its latest update. |
| Facility | The jail or state institution reporting custody. |
| Identification number | A reliable way to distinguish and revisit a record. |
| Release or transfer | A reported change that still needs facility confirmation. |
| Court data | A lead; Brown Circuit Clerk holds the local court record. |
A "Not found" result has many possible causes. Intake lag, a spelling difference, a release, a transfer, a nonparticipating agency, or custody outside VINE can all produce it. The result never proves that no arrest occurred in Brown County.
Register Brown Custody Alerts
Illinois VINE sends alerts by phone, text, email, and app. Registration works from a matching result, and the event choices come from that custody record itself.
- Select the matching custody record.
- Choose offered events such as release or transfer.
- Enter a phone, text number, or email address.
- Create and retain a PIN when prompted.
- Complete confirmation and save the record identifier.
- Update registration if contact information changes.
The PIN confirms a phone notice and stops repeat calls. Guard it when alerts support safety planning. Delivery can still fail, since phone settings, carrier filtering, or outdated contact details can block a message about an arrest or release.
VINELink Limits After Arrest
VINELink does not reach federal Bureau of Prisons custody, and ICE detention runs on a separate locator. A person in Illinois Department of Corrections custody belongs in the official IDOC search. None of these tools is a Brown County daily booking feed for recent arrests.
Brown County Sheriff lists 217-773-2061, extension 1, and Schuyler County Jail lists 217-322-4366. When VINELink stays silent, the Arrests Last 24 Hours process explains how to check fresh intake instead.
Brown County VINELink Screens
The official Illinois VINELink landing page is the correct state-search starting point.
The state screen identifies Illinois before any person search begins. The official Illinois person-search screen displays the dynamic name fields.
Results shift as agencies report custody events, so save the ID and verify the facility. The official VINE entry leads to notification registration.
The registration view supports alerts and is not a booking-photo gallery.
Match Brown Custody Sources
A person booked minutes ago may not appear yet. Someone held at Schuyler should be confirmed there by phone. A released person can trigger a notice. A current roster may still lag behind, while the arrest record and the court case live on. A sentenced person belongs in IDOC. A federal prisoner belongs in BOP.
Brown Circuit Clerk and its Judici link track filed charges and dispositions. That is a separate question from who is in custody today. The Brown Sheriff's weekly reports add another layer. They may describe an arrest, a warrant action, or a lodging statement after the fact. But they are not a live status source and rarely show booking photos. A report can confirm the arresting agency and the event date. VINELink tracks a participating custody record. For the current intake answer, call the receiving jail.
Released and transferred records deserve extra care and a second look. Someone can drop off a current jail list. The booking record stays with the custodian, and the case continues in Brown County court. A transfer alert can also point away from Schuyler. Read the named destination, then use that institution's official contact. Never infer a dismissal or a sentence from a custody movement alone.
When a record is older or missing, file a written Illinois FOIA request. Name the likely agency and a narrow date range. Ask Brown Sheriff for the arrest record. Schuyler holds the receiving-jail booking record, and the Circuit Clerk keeps court documents. VINELink is not an archive. It cannot correct an agency record.
Respond to a Brown VINE Alert
A VINE alert about a release or transfer carries a handful of key details. Read the event type first. Then check the facility, the record identifier, and the time stamp. After that, call the reporting facility using a number pulled from its own official site. Schuyler County Jail receives some Brown arrests. Only the arresting agency can say whether Schuyler actually holds the person in the case you are checking. A transfer notice might instead point to another county jail, IDOC, or a court movement. Some other status needs a direct explanation too.
Notification has real value because it cuts down roster refreshing. It is not a promise of advance warning, and delivery can fail. Keep your contact details current. Retain the PIN. If a notice slips past you, go back to the matching record and contact the reported facility. For urgent safety concerns, do not wait on a web update. Call emergency services or the proper law-enforcement agency.
VINE does not interpret what an arrest means in court. A release can follow bond, a court order, completed sentencing, a transfer, or another cause. Follow the case through the Brown County Circuit Clerk at 217-773-2713, extension 2, or the linked Judici Brown court search. If the online case search throws up a CAPTCHA or lacks detail, the clerk stays the official point of confirmation.
When the name search comes up empty, ask Brown Sheriff directly. Which facility received the person? What spelling does the arrest record use? A written Brown County FOIA request can seek the agency-created arrest record. The receiving jail controls its own booking document. Name the person, the date range, the agency, and the record you want. Those steps tie the alert system back to the official sources without confusing a notification with a permanent record.
Brown County's own sheriff app serves a different purpose. Its documented features include alerts, crime updates, press releases, road conditions, and concern reporting. It lists no public inmate lookup or booking-photo roster, though. Schuyler's official app advertises inmate information and jail rosters in place of its older website. Neither app handles VINE registration. Checking all three channels pays off. It clarifies which agency published an alert, which facility reports custody, and which service sends a later status notice.
If a Brown case moves to state prison, the question changes. Set aside the receiving-jail search. Use the IDOC Individual in Custody Search. Western Illinois Correctional Center sits in Mount Sterling, but it is a state prison, not a Brown County booking facility. Its local address proves nothing about where the arrest occurred. Custody level and agency ownership matter far more than geography.
